Beyoncé: Halo

Bella, sensual, atractiva ..., y ademas compone, produce y canta como los ángeles. Ella es Beyoncé, parte integrante del grupo Destiny's Child hasta su separación en el 2005. Su existencia en solitario ha sido ascendente, numerosos premios -entre ellos los últimos MTV Europe Music Awards- y una de las artistas que más dinero ha generado en la industria musical. De su último disco titulado I am... Raul Midón: Don't Take it that way

Fusionando el soul clásico con el jazz y la música latina, Raul Midón es una de las figuras más atrayentes del panorama musical de los últimos años. Su voz melodiosa y dulce consigue penetrar sin dificultad en los oidos de los amantes tanto de la música negra, del jazz o del pop. Ciego de nacimiento por un problema similar al de una de sus máximas influencias, Stevie Wonder, trabajó como músico de sesión y giras de artistas latinos de renombre, abandonándolo todo -por fortuna para nosotros- y estableciéndose en Nueva York, reinventándose de nuevo a sus 42 años. Ahora nos presenta su nuevo disco titulado Synthesis bajo la producción de Larry Klein -varios Grammys en su haber- y con temas como "Don't Take it that way".

Carl Sims: It Ain't A Juke Joint Without The Blues

Comenzó siendo un adolescente en los años 60 cantando para los originales Bar-Kays, banda de apoyo de Otis Redding. Se libró de la fatalidad del accidente en el cual murió Otis Redding y varios miembros de la banda. Su música se ve claramente inspirada en un soul de la vieja escuela y continua hoy en dia en solitario con temas como "It Ain't A Juke Joint Without The Blues" del año 2004. Voz profunda y poderosa que persiste al paso de los años la de Carl Sims, reinvindicando como propios los años dorados del soul.

Prince: Cream

Extravagante, inconformista, egocéntrico..., pero tambien lleno de talento e irrepetible para la música. Su nombre es ¿Prince?, curiosamente ese es su verdadero nombre, pese a pretender que se le conozca como un símbolo o The Artist.

Lo verdaderamente importante es que tras la apariencia de un hombre físicamente poco espectacular, se encierra una de las mentes más prolíficas, fértiles y aptas de la música del siglo XX. Su música es ambiciosa y llena de seducción, ¡utópico permanecer impávido!, sonidos funk se mezclan con el pop, el rock o el soul, el ritmo es desbordante y se apodera de tu mente. Fue la década de los 80 y principios de los 90 donde nos dejó su legado más genial. Entre ellos "Cream" en 1991 con The New Power Generation.

Noel McKoy: Determined Man

El viejo soul permanece todavía vivo y coleando entre nosotros cuando escuchamos artistas como Noel McKoy. Él es uno de los cantantes británicos de soul mejor considerados y un artista muy versátil. Se sintió atraido por sonidos de grandes como The Isley Brothers o Marvin Gaye, aunque sus comienzos en el apartado acid jazz han sido tambien determinantes, llegando a realizar un estupendo trabajo formando parte de The James Taylor Quartet y colaboraciones con Incognito u Omar. Ahora tenemos oportunidad de escuchar una colección de temas donde un soplo de clásico retro soul nos envuelve con su aliento. Canciones como "Determined Soul", "Shadow of A Dream" o "Brighter Day", la canción que da título a esta recopilación, me permite tener confianza y fe en la música soul del pasado y futuro.

Frank McComb: Another Day

De nuevo nos encontramos frente a un artista cuya inspiración proviene directamente de los grandes del soul, y es que Frank McComb es un fantástico vocalista que me recuerda a Donny Hathaway o Stevie Wonder, compone y canta con el corazón y eso se nota. El jazz y soul se funden, creando una atmósfera de cálidas pinceladas de sensibilidad que hace te sientas pequeño e insignificante, frente a la hermosura de canciones que han nacido para ser degustadas en la intimidad. Ese es el caso de "Another Day", donde la interpretación de este hombre exhala sinceridad y ternura que actúan de bálsamo cicatrizante para el corazón.

Tasha's World: Glowing (Glowing)

Influenciada por clásicos como Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley, Ella Fitzgerald o Anita Baker, Tasha's World es el nombre artístico de Natascha Slagtand, sólida cantante con una bella y profunda voz para el soul, con influencias jazz y hip-hop, nacida en Suriman (antigua Guayana Holandesa), aunque residiendo en Holanda. Su música nos sumerge en un nuevo soul evolucionado de muchos quilates, como nos lo demostró en sus dos trabajos con los que se dió a conocer. Sonidos orgánicos, toques jazz..., toda una caricia para nuestros sentidos y quizás una rareza europea para el soul. De su última publicación en el 2005 -World Domination- podemos absorber su magia con "Glowing (Glowing)".
