25 favoritas canciones soul

La iniciativa por parte del enamorado del baloncesto y de la música soul, Mo Sweat, de confeccionar una lista con nuestras 25 canciones favoritas del soul, ha liberado más si cabe mi añoro y nostalgia por mis ya antiguos discos de vinilo (de paso tambien me ha venido bien para quitarles un poco el polvo).

Es una lista sin orden de preferencia -imposible decantarse por joyas de valor sentimental tan elevado- donde no están todos los que son, pero lo que si es seguro es que los que están, de alguna u otra forma, han formado parte de mi vida y son un refugio -segun mi estado afectivo o emocional- para hacerme sentir bien, y percatarme que la magia existe y se puede tocar simplemente escuchando una canción.

¿Qué fue de Zhané (pronunciado Jah-Nay)?. Han pasado más de 10 años de su segunda y última publicación -Saturday Night- y su mutis por la música ha dejado truncado su prometedor inicio musical en los 90. Sus dulces voces y su sonido soul, un punto sofisticado y con aire de renovación para la Motown, donde mezclaban philly soul, groove, hip-hop beats, jazz..., pero se quedo sólo en eso, una promesa con tan sólo 2 discos.
¿Tendremos que conformarnos con escuchar temas del pasado como este "Sending My Love"?. En espera de que lo que nos manden sea nuevas canciones, todo un placer disfrutar de su música.

Han pasado más de 10 años desde que este neoyorkino -muy influenciado vocal y en su forma de componer por Stevie Wonder- publicara su primer disco. Frescura en sus melodías y sonido, flexibilidad en sus acordes vocales -propias de barítono- y un halo especial envolviéndole en sus composiciones. Era un Rashaan Patterson al que confío volver a ver en solitario, no en la faceta sintético/electrónica llamada SugaRush Beat Company, sino cautivándome con canciones como ésta de sus comienzos, "Where You Are" .

Voz elegante, llena de espiritualidad y feeling. Interpretaciones con alma, que te hacen sentir y disfrutar con su música. Canciones que te obligan a abrir tu corazón y alcanzar un placer extrasensorial con sus notas..., asi es como Donny Hathaway me hace sentir al escuchar su extraordinarias cualidades vocales. Parecía que su desdichada vida -que le llevó al suicidio- necesitaba una válvula de escape para toda la felicidad que no había podido disfrutar y que poseía en su interior. Gospel, RnB, Jazz, era un maestro fusionándolo.
